Meet the Staff



Pastor John Odom, a native of Georgia, grew up in suburban Atlanta in a devout Southern Baptist household. He “saw the light” when he joined the Davidson College Presbyterian Church during his freshman year at Davidson College. After receiving an A.B. cum laude in religion, he pursued a Master of Divinity degree at Union Theological Seminary in New York City. While at Union, John was named a Union Scholar for displaying exceptional potential for service to church and society. John was ordained by the Presbytery of Long Island  and has served congregations in Oceanside, New York, Asheville and Hendersonville, North Carolina. John’s passions include preaching, worship, teaching, missions and evangelism. John is married to the Rev. Emily Enders Odom, associate for communications for the General Assembly Council of the PC (USA). They have two children, Nathaniel and Elizabeth.


Kathryn Campbell, Associate Pastor, grew up in Central New Jersey. After a short-lived career in athletic training at Hope College and the University of Minnesota, she was hired and began work as Coordinator of High School and College-Age Ministries at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Minneapolis. It was during that tenure that her career path shifted and she started at Luther Seminary in Saint Paul. During her studies toward her Master of Divinity, Kathryn served as Youth Ministries Coordinator and Pastoral Intern at a church in Shoreview, Minn. Prior to her call to Starmount, Kathryn served as Coordinator of Children, Youth, Young Adult, and Family Ministries at a church in Roseville, Minnesota.  In her spare time, Kathryn enjoys playing soccer and watching sports of all kinds, as well as spending time with her husband, Austin, and their four furry friends:  Nash (a golden lab), Dutch (a chocolate lab mix), Stewart (a Siamese), and Raya (a calico).



Robert Overman, Director of Music Ministries, remains active as a performer and teacher. He is a member of the vocal faculty at High Point University and is a national winner of both the National Opera Association Auditions in Washington, DC, and the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions in New York City. Robert has enjoyed a 30-year professional singing career, with 15 of those years spent living and singing leading roles in opera theaters and concert halls in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France, and throughout Europe, as well as in the US. He has recently been heard in leading roles with Piedmont Opera and with the Greensboro and Winston-Salem Symphonies. He has also sung as a guest soloist in churches and cathedrals throughout Europe as well as Duke Chapel and the National Cathedral in Washington, DC. Robert and his wife Rhonda are alumni of the Starmount Presbyterian Church Choir, having served as soloists / section leaders prior to their time in Europe. Rhonda serves Starmount as an elder, a soprano in the Chancel Choir and directs the Children’s Choir as well as playing handbells. Bob and Rhonda are the proud parents of two elementary school aged children, Jennifer and Mary, as well as Ginger (Collie), who prefers not to have her age disclosed.



Brenda Triplett, Administrative Office Manager, is a native of Yadkinville, NC, and graduated from Appalachian State University with a B.S. in early childhood education. After teaching one year in Yadkin County, she relocated to Greensboro in 1976. Her job search led her away from teaching into the business world. She came to Starmount in June, 1998, as a temporary part-time secretary and in June, 2004, became the full-time Administrative Assistant. Brenda is a member of City Church and enjoys singing in the choir. In her spare time, she loves going for walks, biking, and spending time with family and friends.



Cynthia Pugh
,  Parish Visitor, is a Presbyterian elder and Stephen Minister. She has called Greensboro home for nearly fifteen years. During that time she has worked extensively with domestic violence issues in Guilford and Rockingham Counties, developed one of the first elder abuse programs in the state, served on the N.C. Governor's Crime Commission, and is a current member of the Guilford County Commission on Aging. Cynthia has gone through Servant Leadership Training in Greensboro. She has a master's degree in counseling from UNC-Charlotte and bachelor's degree from Purdue University.




April Hamilton, Director of Communications and Outreach, is excited to join the Starmount staff! A church member since 2007, April is the soprano section leader in the Starmount Chancel Choir, plays with the Starmount Ringers and serves on the Worship and Music Committee and the Nominating Committee. She is a voice instructor and administrator with the Starmount Vocal Academy and is currently pursuing a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Her concentration is in marketing and she plans to graduate in May 2014. April holds a Master of Music degree from East Carolina University and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Greensboro College in vocal performance. She is a member of the national music honor society, Pi Kappa Lambda, and the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS). In addition to music, April enjoys reading, technology and spending time with her Pekingese puppy, Cooper.
 



Michael Parker
, Organist,  holds a B.M. degree from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music and an M.M. degree from Indiana University. His major teachers have included Peter Takacs and Gyorgy Sebok. He has performed extensively throughout the U.S. as a collaborative pianist. Michael comes to Greensboro College from the faculty of the Cleveland Institute of Music. He has served as artistic director of the Alamance Chorale and organist/choirmaster at the Presbyterian Church of the Covenant in Greensboro. Michael’s church work includes solo piano, harpsichord, and organ literature, as well as accompaniment for variety of instrumental and vocal soloist. Michael has had many career highlights including accompanying Metropolitan Opera leading tenor Marcus Haddock in a concert of operatic arias and duets. Michael has accompanied leading International and Metropolitan Opera star tenor, Johan Botha.




Libby Wilson
, the Financial Administrator, is well known to Starmount since she and her family united with the church in April of 1990. During this time, not only has Libby served in a variety of leadership positions, she had also worked steadily as a certified public accountant in public and private industry. Libby is an active elder on session, the church's elected treasurer, the chairwoman of the finance committee, member of the personnel committee, and is part of the Carpenter's Sunday School Class, Busy Christians and Presbyterian Women.




Leslie Webb, Coordinator of Congregational Fellowship, was raised in  Newtown, Pennsylvania, and graduated from Lebanon Valley College in 1986 with a degree in psychology. She and her husband Gary have lived in Greensboro for 20 years. They have two children, Caroline and Kyle, both active Starmount members. In the past, Leslie has served Starmount as Presbyterian Women's moderator, Middle School Youth advisor, Vacation Bible School co-coordinator, and many other committee positions. She also enjoys a part-time job at Coldwater Creek, playing tennis, reading, and watching the rest of the family play golf.



Cindy Lee, Preschool Director, has been part of the Starmount Staff for 4 1/2 yrs. She started as a lead teacher and then took the Preschool Director's position 2 1/2 yrs ago.  She has been married for 20 years to Scott they have one daughter, Meghan.  She loves spending time with family and friends and, in her spare time, enjoys playing tennis and doing crafts, especially stamping cards.



Johnny Burris
, Facilities Manager, hails from Albemarle, NC; a great place to grow up.  Except for a not-brief-enough six month stint in Charlotte, he has made Greensboro/High Point his home since 1989.  Johnny comes to Starmount after fourteen years in the construction industry as a project manager and two years as operations manager of Center City Park.  In his spare time, Johnny is a professional bagpiper as well as a piper and instructor for the newly formed Seven Oaks Pipes and Drums.  His hobbies also include cycling, hiking/camping and just about anything outdoors.  Johnny is the proud father of Jesse and Kate, both of whom are growing up way too fast!

Mary Jane Conger
, Church Librarian, moved to Greensboro in 1977 to take a job in the catalog department of Jackson Library at the UNCG after completing her master's in library science at UNC-Chapel Hill.  Before that, she attended Mary Baldwin College, majored in history, and went on to get her master's in Chinese and Japanese history at the University of Virginia.  Soon after arriving in Greensboro, she found Starmount Presbyterian and has been here ever since.  In 1978, she was persuaded to help in the dormant church library.  Before long, she was running the library, relocating it three times, and seeing the number of titles quadruple.  For 14 years, she was a foster parent for Child Care Ministry and had 13 foster children.  God placed a special child in her care in 2002, whom Mary Jane adopted in 2003.  This is Melissa, who lights up Mary Jane's world.  Melissa and Mary Jane live with two cats, Xiao Xiao and Snuffy.

James Eury, Assistant Custodian, comes to us from the Arc Program of Greensboro. He has been with us since 2008. He is a loyal employee. The children in the preschool look forward to his daily visit to each classroom before he starts his daily duties. We are very blessed to have him as part of our staff.
