2018 Advent Devotionals

Dear Starmount Friends,

“A voice cries out, in the wilderness prepare the way of the Lord, make straight in the desert a highway for our God. Every valley shall be lifted up and every mountain and hill be made low. Then the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all people shall see it together.”

Isaiah 40:3-5

Advent is a season of preparation. Just as these words from Isaiah remind us, we must prepare for the coming of Christ and this preparation entails transformation. Just as we prepare our homes during this time of year – transforming them from their normal state to one that is decorated with signs of the season – so too must we prepare our hearts to celebrate the birth of Christ. There is perhaps no better tool we can use for this preparation than music. Music has the ability to speak to our hearts perhaps more powerfully than anything else in this world. This year’s Advent devotions have been written with this in mind.

Our devotional booklet will focus on a beloved hymn each week of Advent. Three entries have been prepared to help you sit with the text of each hymn and explore it more deeply. We will be singing these hymns throughout the season of Advent. Our final week of devotions will focus on hymns from our Christmas Eve service. You will be able to find a printed version of these devotionals in our narthex and electronic versions will also be available on our website. I hope these devotionals can be a blessing to you and your family and help you prepare to welcome Jesus Christ, the newborn King!

I would like to close with one final word of invitation. The Lee family is pleased to continue the tradition of the Pastor’s Open House this year. We invite you all to join us for a drop-in on Saturday, Dec. 8th from 2:00-5:00. Our address is 1506 Forest Hill Dr. Come join us for some food, fellowship, and fun!

In Christ,

Charlie Lee
