HOW WE INSPIRE

Whether it be with scripture readings, uplifting sermons or moving music, Starmount strives to provide its members with many ways to praise and worship God. Our welcoming Sunday service mixes traditional and contemporary mediums of prayer, reflection and praise.

Music is always a centerpiece of our worship ritual. Before COVID, Starmount invited all members to participate by lending their talents and spirit to Sunday worship services. See below for a list of our choirs who rehearse together and participate in worship.

“Experiencing and enjoying God and one another is the heart of worship at Starmount.”

CHANCEL CHOIR
The Chancel Choir’s focus is on singing quality, inspirational music, primarily four-part singing, to be accompanied by a variety of instruments including organ, piano, and orchestra. The Chancel Choir assists in leading worship from the choir loft every Sunday. High school students and adults are welcome to join. August through May, rehearsals take place on Wednesdays from 7:00-8:30pm and Sunday’s before church at 9:15am.

STARMOUNT RINGERS
Starmount Ringers is a handbell choir of all ages and abilities. They meet to rehearse after church on Sundays from 11:15am – noon from September through May. The number of choirs is dependent on the number of participants and their abilities. No previous handbell experience is necessary, but bell choir members need to have some ability to read music. Starmount Ringers will assist in leading worship on scheduled Sundays.

THE CHILDREN’S CHOIR
The Children’s Choir is open to all children ages 3 to 5th grade. Choir participants rehearse for 25 minutes following worship on most Sundays. Depending on participation, the number of choirs will be determined based on age and ability. The Children’s Choir will assist in leading worship regularly, based upon worship needs.

THE SUMMER CHOIR
The Summer Choir assists in leading worship from the choir loft during a number of Sundays in the summer months. The Summer Choir focuses on anthems which require less rehearsal and are ideal for those people who want to try singing in the choir or are unable to commit to the weekly rehearsals of the Chancel Choir during the program year.

CONCERTS & MUSIC EVENTS
Our choirs work especially hard to prepare for cantatas during Advent and Holy Week. Often these special musical worship events involve orchestra accompaniment and guest directors. Starmount Sunday services feature musical guests from time to time who share their voices, instruments and talent with us.

Special concerts are regularly hosted in our sanctuary because its acoustics make it a wonderful place to enjoy music. This is especially celebrated during Bach’s Lunch, a classical concert series that Starmount has held for almost 30 years! During Bach’s Lunch, the community is invited to enjoy daily concerts by talented regional musicians followed by a free lunch in our fellowship hall.
