Special Edition: One Church One Book
Starmount is partnering with area congregations and community organizations to sponsor a city-wide event at First Presbyterian Church called Community Conversations with Debby Irving.
Irving is the author of Waking Up White, an insightful book about perspectives on race written to bring communities together. In order for Starmount to get involved in this important community discussion, we encourage our members to read Waking Up White and participate in discussions we have planned over 3 sessions in August and September. Our library has several copies of the book for you to check out. Take a look at the discussion options below and choose a time in each session that is convenient for you!
Session 1: Chapter 1-16
Sun, 8/12 at 8:45am, Mon, 8/13 at 7pm, or Thurs, 8/16 at Noon
Session 2: Chapter 17-33

Join us at Hamilton Lakes for this family fellowship event. Pack a picnic dinner or order from the Hamilton Lakes snack bar. All are welcome – and feel free to bring friends – but note that this is not a “drop off” event for parents. Bring the whole family and beat the heat with your Starmount friends!
Music in the Park
Sun, August 12
It’s that time of year again. The Greensboro Concert Band is scheduled to play at Lindley Park for Greensboro’s Concerts in the Park series. Park at the church and walk over for the concert. Bring lawn chairs and a picnic dinner if you’d like. Look out for the Starmount tent and enjoy this summer evening with your church friends.
Family Fun Night
Wed, August 15
New to our summer fellowship plans this year is the monthly Family Fun Night. Similar to Wonderful Wednesday, these events will include dinner and are open to all ages, but the activities will allow families to interact together to win silly games and enjoy summertime fun! The last of these events is a Wet ‘N’ Wild Cook Out. Dress to get wet because we’ll have slides for the kids and water balloon games and water fights for all. Click here to register.
Blessing of the Backpacks
Sun, August 26 at 10am
Join us for worship on the Sunday before school starts. All students – from preschool to college – are encouraged to bring their backpacks for a special blessing so they can start their school year off right! This is a great worship service to invite friends, so extend an invite to school friends or neighbors.
Wanna get outside and enjoy God’s creation with friends? Join us for hiking or kayaking excursions. Kayaks can be rented at the locations below. Email Jorja for more information at firstname.lastname@example.org
Sun, August 12 at 1:00pm – Kayaking at McIntosh Lake
Sun, September 9 at 1:00pm – Kayaking at Belews Lake
Sat, October 13 at 1:00pm – Hiking at Watershed Trails
The Story Bible Study
Mondays at 3:30 or Wednesdays at Noon
Mary Jane Conger and Parks Williams will be leading a Bible study using the reference, “The Story”, which translates the Bible into chronological stories. Choose the time that works for you! Note: The Story will break for the summer – the last class will be June 18th and the classes will resume on September 10th.
